Work It [Or Fake It]

sweatshirt [true to size, wearing in small] // leggings [size down if in between, wearing in XS]
Nike shoes [true to size, like walking on air]

I had good intentions going into the new year. In fact, I made it two whole days of working out. TWO. That's more than one, which for somebody who hadn't worked out in months upon months, was quite the feat. Now, did I have intentions to continue? Yes. Did I forget and eat Chick-fil-a while lying on the couch instead? Oops. Here's where the good news comes in - I officially have the clothes on hand that I can workout in should I decide to jump aboard that train however, should I not, I still have the clothes on hand to pretend that working out is something I do. Jokes on you suckers.

Last fall I had started hearing rave reviews around the brand Zella at Nordstrom. I decided I should take it upon myself to see if the brand really lived up to what everybody was saying. Well kids, if it's any indication by how much I've been wearing my high waist leggings and sweatshirts, you could say I like them just a little bit. Okay, a lot. At this point I don't know how I would get through a day without them, that's how pathetic it's gotten. Not only is the brand super well made, SO comfortable, and adorable, it's also long lasting. Nobody likes leggings that are good for about two wears and then they stretch out, fade, pill and all that good stuff. These my friends, do not.

In addition, yes you can get all show off about things and workout in them, however you can also wear them for lounging around and running errands. I own these same leggings in black and wear them with tunics and sweaters for a more dressier look as well. If high waist aren't your thing [although believe me, you need to try them if you haven't before - life changing, you can shop the regular version here

Here's where I need your help. Let's say I decide to start working out again, maybe for like 3 days this time, what do YOU do to stay fit? Now that I've got the clothes, I should probably get the moves. So tell me your secrets please and thank you. Oh and hey, if you need some clothes to help with your fitness goals [I'm a believer that the workout is only as good as how cute you look when doing it] you can head to Nordstrom for your one stop shop.

ps. I keep telling my husband that if I would just book a trip to Turks and Caicos I would finalllllly care more and get serious about things but until that happens, sorry partner. You want a flab free wife? Take me to an island, it's that simple ;)

pps. Speaking of tropical islands, have I mentioned yet that it was literally 8 degrees, windy as heck and snowing like crazy when shooting these photos? #getmeoutofhere

disclosure: thank you to Nordstrom for partnering for today's post. while I am being compensated for this, all products were purchased, worn and loved like crazy by yours truly.

  2. I have some Zella pants that I love that I scored during one of the half off sales to see if the hype is worth the price. If you workout regularly, they are worth the hype.

For exercise advice, I've been using a program for 2 years that I always go back to when I want to kick start working out or for maintenance, which is the 21 Day Fix program from Beachbody. It's super easy because you have 1 workout that's around 30 minutes and requires minimal equipment for you to do the workout in your living room. It also has an eating plan that's pretty easy to follow and has containers to help with the measurements, etc. Hope that helps with your workouts!

  4. Check out the iphone/android app AAPTIV for workouts!!! It's seriously the best - the only app I've ever actually paid for (can try for free though!) They have tons of variety of each workout (run, yoga, stength, etc..) - the playlists are great for everyone (ex: run to some classic 90s boyband jams, or do a strength workout to today's hits) and they tell you what to do so you don't have to think, plan ahead, or go to a gym! Plus you can do them whenever / wherever you want! There's plenty of 10 minute ab or butt routines for those days you don't want to really workout but feel like you should actually do something ;).. Try it for a free month using promo code: "CarynHerbClub" - Good luck on your workout mission. I feel ya - #thestruggleisreal :)

  5. Love your blogs and the newsletter!! I also love clothes and all things fashion. I do at home workouts that are 30 minutes. I love trying new workouts and have tried many- orange theory, body pump, trainers, gym membership (lots group exercise classes) running, biking. I find that having something I can do in 30 minutes home is best for me. I can get you pointed in the right direction if you have any interest :)

  6. Wow I need those leggings! They are backordeted til almost March though, ughhhh! I am a TJ Maxx and Marshalls addict for workout gear though - cannot beat those prices and it's actually good stuff!! I fully agree that working out in new cute clothes makes for a much better workout. (Work out is the verb, workout is the noun. You're welcome ;) )

  8. Hey Erin,
I'm totally a quitter too! I just started this blog www.samplingskinny.wordpress.com to get my Zella pants into the gym. I'm sampling different workouts each week for this entire year. I would love for you to check it out sometime.

  10. I have the same problem! We had a trip planned to Mexico for our 10 year, so I worked out doing Julian Micheal's 30 day Shred and changed my diet the month before we went (and seriously lost 8 lbs and got toned) came home and lost all motivation to keep it up. If only we could go tropical places every month! Stupid midwest winters!

And YES - it totally matters how cute you look doing it! I workout way better when I look great...you know other than dripping like a pig or whatever.

  13. I have an upright stationary bike that I ride for 20-45 minutes 6 days a week. It's great because it's quiet and I can watch my TV shows while I ride. I also do some ab crunches and pushups 3 days a week. It's working for me because now if I start to watch a show I think, well might as well ride my bike while I watch this so I don't feel so guilty! Just a nice steady pace burns lots of calories!

  15. Hi, I have to agree with several of the comments already posted about working out at home. I don't sell the stuff, but I swear by the beach body workouts. If you do them consistently, you will see your body change. I've done 21 Day Fix Extreme and like it (sometimes do it without following the food plan). But the one I swear by which I think is the best use of 30 minutes of exercise is Insanity Max 30. Shaun T will kick your butt and you will think you are going to die, but it is 30 minutes and requires no equipment. I lost 2 inches off of my chest (had been a 36 since high school and was 43 when I did it) because of Insanity. It totally changed my shape. I can't say enough about it. I live somewhere where the winters are mild, but a good cold day can keep me home from the gym. I can't imagine forcing myself to get out in the cold to get to a gym where you are. Home workouts are the best! It doesn't help you justify buying cute workout clothes, but other than that...

  16. Hi! Let me start by saying I love Zella, even before I wore them for true workouts!! I have never worked out a day in my life, I ran track and swam on high school and have just been lucky with genetics. However, when I hit my 30's and had 2 kids I all the sudden found myself 20 lbs heavier. I became a SHM in Aug and one condition of my own was to workout and consistently. I have now been hitting the gym (I do circuit training boot camp) 4 to 5 days a week and love it. I've dropped 15 lbs and am so much stronger. Join a place that holds you accountable! I go to Burn Bootcamp, not sure if there is a location near you. You could also do Round9, or some other type of circuit training. ,"Circut training changes daily and is never boring. I have a trainer that helps with nutrition and the workouts in one place. Honestly, if I can do this, anyone can!! Good luck!

BTW, I was in corporate retail as a buyer and merch planner for 15 years, I love clothing and home devote. So glad I found your site!

  17. Omg, girl! 21 Day Fix - I am telling you!! Best program ever. Now has it been like 6 mo. since I've done it? Maybe. But seriously, it's so legit! I also don't even do the Shakeology with it. Although, the shakes are very good - just kinda pricey, but I just do another Red instead.

I read and appreciate every one of your comments. Thanks for stopping by my space and sharing a piece of yourself on this huge ole internet. I meant that in the least creepy way possible. I'm just good at making everything awkward. Anyhow, thank you for your comments. They make me smile :)
