Good ole ankle booties - my love for these babies runs deep as I've been a fan and wearer or this boot trend for a couple of years now. While I embrace them and love them now, it did take me a while to get comfortable with how exactly to wear them, what to wear them with, how to wear my jeans with them, whether or not I could wear socks with them and the list goes on. Because I've had a journey with them, I am going to go out on a limb and assume that maybe you too have questions on how to best wear them or are in need of some great quality options at a reasonable price point.

Well guess what ladies and gents [okay, just ladies] today I'm bringing you all of that information, my favorite looks on how to wear these and more. Because we have A LOT to cover I'm going to shut up and get started.

First - the number one question I've had around ankle booties and what the majority of you have been asking is "HOW IN THE WORLD DO I WEAR JEANS WITH THEM?!" except you weren't actually shouting it but for dramatic purposes I thought I would. Do you cuff them, do you tuck them, do you need cropped jeans, what ever do we do with them? Here's my two cents on how to wear your jeans with ankle booties:

1. General rule of thumb, do not tuck. Go to great measures before resorting to tucking. Those great measures being...
3. Cuff or roll up your longer jeans to pair with these.

Your jeans should hit above the top of your booties so whatever you gotta do to get your jeans up there, do that. First lets look at ways to wear cropped jeans with booties - my favorite cropped jeans for ankle booties are these, these, these and these. One thing to note - you don't want too much of a gap between your jeans and the booties so be mindful of that. Here's a few looks with cropped jeans and booties.

ps. for reference I am 5'4, prefer a 25-27 inseam for cropped jeans and typically wear a size 26 waist.

cardigan [size down one, wearing an XS] // tee [true to size] // jeans [wearing a 26, if in between sizes go up - I rolled these down one roll to create a little more length due to my booties not having much heel and height] ankle booties [true to size] // purse
cardigan [size down one, wearing an XS] // tee [true to size] // jeans [true to size]
wedges [true to size] // necklace // purse
baseball tee [true to size] // jacket [size down one, wearing an XS] // white jeans [true to size]
floral tunic [wearing a medium] // ankle booties [true to size]

Next lets tackle the regular jeans that you cuff - my favorite ones to wear with booties are these, these and these. I typically do one larger cuff with my ankle booties although you can also do 2 smaller rolls or cuffs if you prefer that look. Here's several looks showcasing how to wear them with jeans...

cowl neck sweater [true to size, wearing a small] // jeans [true to size] // ankle booties [true to size]
tee [true to size, wearing a small] // jeans [true to size] // jacket [size down one, wearing an XS]
shoes [similar] // choker
cardigan [size down one, wearing an XS] // tee [true to size, wearing small] // jeans [true to size]
lucky ankle booties [true to size] // pink top [true to size, wearing small] // lace up sandals [true to size]
cross front top [true to size, wearing small] // jeans [true to size] // lace up sandals [true to size]
vest [true to size, wearing small] // tee [true to size, wearing small] // jeans [wearing a 26, if in between sizes go up] // ankle booties [true to size] // purse

A few of you wanted to know "what else can you wear them with besides jeans?!" Well friends, let's take a look....

First we have dresses....
dress [older from miss chic] // cardigan [size down one, wearing XS] // lace up sandals [true to size]
maxi dress [true to size, wearing small] // wedges [true to size]

Then we have shorts...

long sleeve tee [true to size, wearing small] // shorts from target - available in store // black wedges [true to size] // cross front top [wearing a medium] // ankle booties [true to size]

We have colored denim....

sweater [true to size, wearing a small] // jeans [I sized up one to a 4, not sure if that was necessary but my other rockstar jeans shrank so we will see if that was a good call or not] // ankle booties [true to size // purse

We have underneath work pants...
top [true to size, wearing a small] // pants similar // ankle booties similar // purse

And last but not least, we have with tights underneath skirts or dresses for work [this is typically all I wear in the winter to work!]
tunic [size down one, wearing an XS] // skirt from stitch fix [similar here] // booties similar // purse

PHEW. Do we all have a general idea of different ways to wear ankle booties now? Lord I hope so because I don't think I can take one more mirror selfie.

Next up - several of you asked about the whole sock situation. If they have cutouts or openings on the sides, obviously socks aren't going to happen. I have discovered Foot Petals which you can put in the bottom of your shoes when not wearing socks and they are breathable plus can be taken out and washed in the washing machine which is awesome. For more information on those you can see my blog post here. Now, if they are ankle booties that don't have any cutouts or openings on the side, you can wear short little socks. Make sure they are the "no show" kind that you can't see - you can find several different styles here. Due to not typically wearing socks that will cover your heels, a few of you expressed concern about your heels rubbing the back of the booties. Thankfully there are these Foot Petals Heavenly Heels that will prevent rubbing!

Next up - let's talk about what seasons ankle booties are appropriate. For those of you who are lucky enough to live in places that don't receive snow or terribly cold weather, it's game on for you year round. For the unfortunate [myself included] I turn to different styles of ankle booties depending what season we are in. If they are open toe or have openings/cutouts I will wear those through the warmer months and fall. As soon as winter hits those go to the back of the closet and I bring forward the ankle booties that are fully enclosed. You can still definitely wear them, you just won't want to wear the more exposed styles in the dead of winter. One thing to also keep in mind for winter is the material - for ankle booties that I know I will be wearing during the cold, snowy months I try to buy leather. For the fall or warmer months, I love suede. Snow and suede don't always mix well so just be mindful of that, unless of course you are treating your suede beforehand [more details on how to do that here].

When thinking about which booties are right for you, fit and comfort is so important. After wearing different brands and styles, my go-to for comfort, looks, price and fit are Vince Camuto, Lucky Brand, Sam Edelman and Jeffrey Campbell. You definitely get what you pay for and when it comes to booties that you want to wear for more than one season that won't kill your feet, paying a little more is more than worth it.

Last but not least before we dive into all of my booties finds, two last things to consider are color and heel height. If ankle booties are going to be a staple in your wardrobe I would suggest starting out with a great pair in the beige family. Tans are so versatile and can be paired and worn so many ways. Other great colors to have on hand are black and grey. It is fun to have a pop of color if that's something you want to experiment with. In regards to heel height - that is going to be a personal preference. I prefer either flats or those with a 3" heel or less. Wedges are another style that are super comfortable for me and easy to wear.

I think that covers every possible thing under the sun when it comes to ankle booties - if I left something out or you have questions please let me know. Below you can find my favorite styles broken down by price and color - it may take a minute for the images to load so patience. Once they load you should see a little + on each pair - when you hover on that it will show the price and then you are able to simply click on the price if you want to be taken to the direct spot to buy! Remember if you like a particular style to click on it because there is a good chance that it will be offered in several different color options as well! Happy ankle bootie shakin it up!

1. Tan under $100

2. Additional tan + colors under $100

3. Black and grey under $100

4. Tan under $200

5. Grey under $200

6. Black and grey under $200

Hope you found this beneficial! As always, thanks for stopping by - now if you'll excuse me I have a hot date to chick-fil-a to get to ;)

Currently I'm.....

general rule of thumb - always start your blog post with a photo of tacos. people will like you more.

+ Wondering how and why // my favorite movies as a child were Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman. It's almost like my parents wanted me to be a prostitute? Sorry parents for deeply failing you on that one.

+ Thrilled about // my newest discovery of White Claw Spiked Sparkling Water. It's like drinking water but with alcohol. Hence the whole spiked thing.

light up bar sign from junk art gypsyz

+ Forgiving myself for // forgetting to wear underwear the past two times I've been on my period. Sorry about that one pants, better luck next time.

+ Recovering from // the one hour it took me to mop my floors. Why they haven't invented self cleaning floors yet is beyond me. Somebody out there has to be smart enough to accomplish this task right?

+ Watching // well, technically I'm not watching it at this moment, however I did watch the movie Mother's Day last night and loved every bit of it. I want to be Jennifer Aniston sooner than later, so if somebody knows how to make that happen maybe let me know.

+ Ordering // Ugg slippers for my husband and one of these robes for myself. I'm convinced that if we spend money on items that we can only wear around the house that we will never actually leave the house, in return saving us money. It's a very logical thought process.

+ Listening to // the sound of the dryer running downstairs in the basement along with somebody mowing outside. Anybody else's washer and dryer in the basement? I keep telling myself that if I would do laundry more than once a week I might actually get in shape.

+ Washing // the bedding. It was a craaaaaaaaazy weekend in the sheets. You want the details? You got it. My nieces ate popcorn AND drank 7UP while laying in them. I know, I couldn't believe it got that wild either. You know what else got wild? The other night when we jumped on the trampoline together and pee came out.

+ Feeling // the heaviest I've ever been. Minus that one time in high school after I started dating Shawn and he drank Sprite Remix like it was his freaking job so then I did too and put on a quick 30 pounds. The things love does to us. Gross. On the bright side I totally have plans to start the 21 day fix next Tuesday. I only said "on the bright side" because that means I still have a solid 7 days left of enjoying life.

+ Trying to forget // the bad dream that I had around the baby shower I am hosting this weekend for my bestie who is getting ready to pop. I totally forgot to have any decorations, zero games and maybe forgot to have people bring gifts. It was a nightmare. Which reminds me, I should probably start planning the baby shower now.

+ Smelling // the trash. It's super luxurious over here.

+ Behind on // Only 1441 emails. NBD.

+ Thankful for // the gift that I gave to Shawn for his birthday this year. These YETI koozies have come in handy every time I need a drink on the boat. New discovery - the Ozark Trail brand are a ton cheaper and work just as good. They keep your can cold for an insane amount of hours, holler.

+ Opening // my box. My Stitch Fix box that is. You freaks. [ps. anybody else love when Jimmy Fallon plays "box of lies" with people - especially Jennifer Lawrence.]

+ Thinking about // That one time in middle school when I put a trail of little pieces of brownies all over the gymnasium floor and then went and got a janitor and told him a mice must have pooped all over the place. Who does this and why am I still alive to tell the story? Certainly kids aren't this dumb [or creative] these days right?

+ Kicking my self in the shins for // not planning a tropical vacation this fall. Who doesn't want to lay on the beach when winter is quickly approaching in Indiana? Idiot call Erin.

+ Wearing // a sports bra, tank and workout shorts. If you're not actually working out, you may as well dress the part. Pretty sure it burns the same amount of calories. Basically.

+ Eating // nothing. It's a miracle so I had to document it.

+ Planning // dinner. If I'm not eating, I'm thinking about it. Tonight's choice? Spice-Rubbed Chicken with some sweet potato, bell pepper and feta jumble. Don't think that I just pulled that out of my back end, it's totally Hello Fresh calling the shots over here. But I do appreciate that it makes me sound like I know what I'm doing in the kitchen. JOKES ON YOU SUCKERS.

+ Daydreaming about // randomly running into Jake Owen in a grocery store or somewhere cool like that. I really just want to see his teeth up close and personal. Like are they that white and pretty?

+ Having to // go to the bathroom. BRB people. Number one or number two? You'll never know....

+ Wishing // I could go number 2 more often. #digestiveprobs

+ Ending // this blog post. And the crowd sang hallelujah. Pretend this is me saying bye except I'm not actually saying anything but smiling at you really up close and personal. You're right, this just got weird. BYE!

Shop My Closet [Links, Size Info, Etc] + Best Sales of the Weekend!

Well look at that folks, we survived another week and only had to drink approximately 8 beers to get through it. I wasn't planning on doing one of these "shop my closet" posts this weekend until the sky decided to cry its eyes out and rain like crazy all morning. Because boredom and I don't fair well together [last time I got bored I stuck my hair in a candle, hair caught on fire, our house smelled, it was messy - don't ask] so in efforts to keep my hair in tact I decided to write a post instead. Blogging is basically saving my life.

If you are new around here, well I'm sorry. Sometimes things get awkward, a little inappropriate [but not too bad, people like my parents read this so as much as I would love to write about how I strongly believe every woman should own a certain item [I'll leave you to guess what I'm talking about] I'll probably keep my mouth shut]...]. However, we also like to have fun around here, prove that I get dressed from time to time and wrap the week with a slew of outfits. Every year there is a big deal made around what the PANTONE colors of the year are. Until now I've always been one to always just browse through the fashion magazines while I was impatiently waiting in line at the grocery store to see what was considered "on trend" for the season. Well folks, I'm turning over a new leaf and am vowing to be ahead of the game this year. When I saw that PANTONE released their fashion color report for fall 2016 I was anxious to see what colors they were saying will be huge this season. My biggest shock? Olive green wasn't on there. All I've been buying recently has been olive green but you know what they say "screw it! wear it any way!" or at least that's what I am choosing to say ;) I do absolutely love the shade of green however that they chose and couldn't be happier to see a few of the other colors listed.

I thought I would do us all a huge favor and browse some of my favorite websites to find items in all of these colors. I broke them all down below and made it super easy for you to shop. You'll notice when you hover over an item it should show you the price [it does take a little bit to load so patience girlfriends] - you can quickly click on it to be taken to the site where you can buy. Any questions, holler at your girl - I got you.

Let the drum roll begin...annnnnnd, go.

Riverside - Cool and calming, strong and stable

Airy Blue - Light and full of serenity

Sharkskin - Pair-able with any fall color, bright or muted

Aurora Red - Bold red, exciting and dynamic

Warm Taupe - Trusted, organic and timeless

Dusty Cedar - Dustier rose toned pink

Lush Meadow - Rich and elegant, bright and sophisticated

Spicy Mustard - Spicier, zestier yellow

Potter's Clay - Russet orange with a neutral earth tone

Bodacious - bright rich purple with hints of a sophisticated pink

And that's a wrap people. Which color are you loving the most from this year's fall trends? Any that you were surprised by or are excited to try?

5 Ways We Spice Up Our Life

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of IZZE. All opinions are 100% mine.

Life can get a little mundane after awhile. Monday turns into Tuesday, Wednesday looked exactly like Tuesday, Thursday's routine was identical to Wednesday's and the cycle continues. Every once in awhile I find myself in a rut where I have a deep yearning for change. The older I get and the longer we have been married, the more I realize that we have to be intentional about adding a little pizzazz into our lives. Sometimes that means acting on a bigger item like booking that vacation we have been dreaming about for months or sometimes it's something as simple as trying a new drink with our dinner. They say that variety is the spice of life and I am a huge advocate of spicing things right on up. Here's 5 simple ways that we do just that in our household - all of which don't take a lot of effort but can have a big impact on breaking up the routine of things.

1. Cook together. This is something we didn't really do together for the first 8-9 years of marriage, however recently Shawn has gotten a little more involved in the kitchen around dinner time and it has been so much fun to have him by my side cutting up veggies, frying up the chicken on the stove or trying to prevent me from burning the house down [that's a full time job in itself]. We've been able to create some delicious dishes together and it's so much more enjoyable to have each other to thank when eating rather than a fast food worker.
a recent creation - grilled red peppers, salad and lemon chicken with rice, scallions, roasted pistachios and feta cheese - yes please.

2. Go for a walk, sit outside around a fire, or do anything WITHOUT your phones or any other form of technology for a period of time. We have to be intentional about being fully present with each other in the evenings or else we fall victim to being that couple who is around each other often yet never actually together. I have a hard time of not checking in on things socially often, however it drives Shawn absolutely nuts when he is telling me a story and I am looking down at Instagram only half listening. And by half I mean actually not at all. Our favorite thing to do during the summer is to take Maggie on a walk and that has been a really good opportunity for us to catch up on each other's days while getting a little bit of exercise in.

3. Try something new together. This can be something major like jumping out of an airplane [umm, no thank you] to buying a drink for dinner that neither of you have had before. On a recent trip to my local grocery store I spotted these IZZE Sparkling Juices and because I am sucker for cute packaging and delicious sounding flavors I grabbed both the Sparkling Clementine [for him] and Sparkling Pomegranate [for me]. I set the outdoor table up all cutely and whipped out our fun tasting IZZE juices to make the occasion feel a little more special than normal.

The IZZE Sparking Juices are made from 70% fruit juice and a splash of sparkling water to give them a fresh tasting better for you beverage. Add in the fun bright bold colors and you've got yourself a party in your mouth. One of my favorite way to enjoy these juices? With a little bit of vodka mixed in of course ;) These were definitely a fun treat for us to enjoy and made our dinner feel that much more enjoyable.

4. Indulge in each other's favorite things from time to time. For Shawn this is a royal cheesecake blizzard from Dairy Queen. Sometimes after we are done eating dinner I will bolt over to DQ to pick up his favorite treat and come home to either enjoy it out on the boat together or in the comfort of our sweatpants on the couch. He knows I am a huge fan of the Bachelor [or Bachelorette] so every once in awhile he will agree to sit next to me on the couch and try not to make fun of the people [or me] too bad while I sit there with tears falling from my eyes.

5. Find things that make you laugh and then do those things. Have you ever went to a comedy show together? Watched a hilarious YouTube video in each other's presence? Sat down on the couch and turned on a classic comedy? Shared funny stories from your day? Laughing is the best medicine and more than a kiss [in my opinion] has the power to make you feel more connected than ever before. If laughing isn't your thing, the kisses should do ;)

How do you spice up your life whether it be solo or with your partner? Drop your suggestions below and we can all get a little spicy together.

ps. Right now IZZE is encouraging you to grab your friends [or in my case, my man], a few bottles of your favorite IZZE Sparkling Juice [I so want to try the Cherry Lime and Peach] and create your own #FriendsdayNight. Not that you ever need an excuse or a reason to have fun, but you officially have my permission.
