House Remodel Update #3

September 3, 2014

By:

Erin Schrader

It’s time for the weekly segment of “see how much of a disaster zone the Schrader house still appears to be in!” Fortunately this week we have moved away from the piles of dust and drywall phase to the “it’s actually starting to resemble a house again” stage. People including my husband and I could not be more thrilled about this fact. Today was a big day in the remodel phase as the kitchen installation started. If there was ever a need for a red salsa dancer emoticon to be inserted anywhere this would be it. I am loving [l-o-v-i-n-g] how it is coming together so we will get to that goodness in a second. For now, lets start with the basics. Like a hallway.

Here is what the hallway looked like last time we talked. And on the left is what the hallway looks like today. A slight difference you may say.

This is now our entry light instead of that dangling gold thing you see up above. It’s nice because now you don’t get smacked in the face every time you walk through the front door. Little changes equal less bruises.

As for the half bathroom, as you can see on the left from the last time I showed her off, she had a heaping pile of Hell [also known as wallpaper] that had just been stripped and laying on the ground. We since installed beadboard [go husband go] and painted the wall up above it. She is waiting [very patiently] on baseboard trim to be installed, a mirror to be hung, and crown molding to be installed but like we keep telling every other room–it will happen. soon. just not soon enough.

The good news is I did add this light fixture in there making it perfectly nautical and well, perfect.
Moving onto the living room, this is what she looked like before [yes, every room in our house is a female apparently].

And here is her present state of mind.

Because I can’t stop and won’t stop loving mint, that’s what happened here. Also, you will notice the trim went from brown to white. A few things yet to do in here but almost complete.

And the best for last—the kitchen. Lets go back to what it looked like last time we looked at it.

And as of tonight, here is what the kitchen currently looks like [sorry, it was dark outside when the photos were taken so the quality is a little iffy].

Obviously not finished, but a dang good start. For all of you locals out there, we worked with The Design Studio and could not be happier. Being able to sit down and have a kitchen designed to exactly what we want is so fun. There are some exciting things we are having added in that you don’t see as of yet, but stay tuned–that will all come soon enough.

So there you have it, this week’s update. We are down to 10 days before move in [#cray] and here is what is left. Mostly.

If it wasn’t for the backyard, I would seriously question my mental state right now but this all makes it a teeny bit better. Drink anyone?
