With Tears, Erin.

Grandpa,

It's hard to believe I took this picture of your hands just a few weeks ago. What I wouldn't give right now to sit next to you at the table and hear some of your funny lines you always seemed to say. Life is hard right now...watching you lay in pain, not able to move, nor barely speak is heart wrenching. I know you know we are there watching, talking about some of our favorite memories of you, laughing, crying, and praying. Please know that you are leaving so much more for us than memories. You are leaving us with lessons learned, values instilled, and a family united. I don't know what the next few days, weeks, or months have in store for you but I do know one thing...I love you grandpa.

  21. Erin, I'm so sorry that you Grandpa is hurting right now, and that your hearts are hurting along with him. I am praying for more sweet joy in the coming days - hopefully years worth yet! So thankful that you and he have the joy and peace that come from knowing the one who created us so that he might love us. Thank you for sharing real life with us today and being vulnerable with the treasures of your heart!

    xx

  23. Oh Erin... it wasn't that long ago (9/24/13) that my sweet Grandmother took her last breath after years of fighting for her life. We all rallied around her while she made the decision to be a DNR and be taken off meds to keep her alive as well as stood by her while she took her final breath. I know your pain and I hate that for you. Say the things you want to say but don't say goodbye because it's NOT goodbye, it's "see you later". I'm sending lots of prayers your way.. for you and your family. And remember, "That which we have once enjoyed, we never lose. All that we deeply love becomes a part of us." Take gentle care. XOXO

  24. Lifting you and your family up in prayer tonight. I have spent many, many hours in our local nursing home, and it always was heavy in my heart when a resident wasn't doing well. A nun would always tell me that their silence was because they were contemplating their Heavenly Father and Life Eternal. It gave me some comfort. I hope it does you, too. Thinking of you, sweetie!

  55. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Erin. I lost my grandpa at 96 and my dad at 72 in August. It's the most helpless feeling in the world to lose a piece of yourself in a grandparent or parent. Please know that you are surrounded with love from tons of internet strangers. And I mean that in the least creepy way possible. ((Hugs))

  57. I know you do not follow my blog but I feel your pain. And I am so incredibly sorry you're dealing with this. My grandpa, my hero and my world, was diagnosed with cancer after a surgery in June. We were told he had 1-2 years if treatment didn't work and many more if it did. Just two months later, while I was home to go to chemo with him (something important to me since he sat with me during my chemo treatments countless times), he passed away. He got an infection and went into septic shock. I stood around his bedside, talking to him, hoping he could hear me. We all said our goodbyes and with his wife, 4 children, 4 in-laws, and 7 grand kids around his bedside, he took his last breath. It's been 3 months now. I'm angry I only go 2 months. I'm saddened he's gone. I'm hurting. I guess I just want you to know someone else understands. I'm thinking of you and praying for him and your family.

  60. I am so behind on reading blogs so I'm just now seeing this (somehow I missed it on IG). My nan passed away just over a month ago. Even after numerous deployments, 3 miscarriages......this is the single hardest thing I've had to deal with. I'm so glad I could be there for her service (wasn't able to make my pops since we were in Alaska at the time and hubs was deployed) but I think it has just made it harder to deal with. I think about her all the time and cry out of nowhere (and I'm not a crier like that).

Anyways, just wanted you to know that you are not alone. (I know you have family and all...but you know what I mean). (((HUGS)))
