Blogging Q&A: Video Style. I Need Your Questions.

If I was playing my cards right in this whole "part-time" gig I would be thinking about ways to generate additional income. Say by advertising my one hour Q&A sessions that I offer. However, I've never been that good at playing cards so we're not going to go that route right now. Rather, I thought it would be fun to do a big ole blogging Q&A session, video style. What this means is that I need you to ask blogging related questions in the comments below, or on any of my social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and then I will do a vlog answering those questions. I realize that I could do this via text in a blog post, but that wouldn't be nearly as awkward and embarrassing for my husband. Have I ever mentioned how much he adores when I do vlogs? That's because he hates it. I just really like doing things he hates. #truelove.

So what questions do you have? How to add text on photos? How much to charge for sponsorship? How to engage people on social media? How many drinks you should consume in the writing of one post? I want to hear what's on your mind. I don't promise that I will have all of the "correct" answers, but I will have the answers that have worked for me. I'm excited to hear what you want to know.

Now get those questions out--I've got a vlog to record, nails to paint, and lip gloss to apply. Beauty before brains, don't forget it.

ps. but seriously--if you prefer a more personal touch in your learning experience, feel free to book a one hour session today

  1. I'm SO glad you're doing this, I've been wanting to ask this for a while. This might be a bit personal but it does relate to blogging... Faith. I feel the tug at my heartstrings to be myself in that aspect, and if I feel it, I should write it. But I've read that it can deter many potential readers. How do you handle it on your blog? Are you afraid to mention it for the fear of losing readers? Thanks Erin!!

  3. This is so awesome that you're doing this!! I just started blogging and I have a lot of questions. How do you approach people or companies for sponsorship, and how much do you charge? How do you get more traffic to your website? How do you get people to engage in your comments section? Those are all of the questions I can think of right now, but I'm sure I'll think of more later today, and I'll come back and add to my list!:)

  4. How DO you put text on a picture? What's the best way to design the look of your blog? How tech/computer savy do you really need to be to be to be a blogger?

  5. Love this route Erin! And congrats on your new part-time gig--AWESOME! How many times must I ask you to join me in Hawaii via blog comment before it actually happens? There, that is my "blogging" question ;) Happy Sunday!

  8. How did you advertise your blog when first starting out, besides sponsoring others? I used linky parties since I'm a DIY blog, but I'm curious how you did it.

  9. May I know the percentage of your returning visitors? Because mine is around 30% and I'm not sure if it's good or not... Thanks!

  10. Fun! I love watching people's vlogs (not doing them though myself...)! Here's my blogging question: How do you come up with original content/where and what are you inspired from? Can't wait to see your vlog post!

  12. I definitely need questions answered!
    1) I used to sell more ad space than what's selling now. Any tips on getting more ad space sales?
    2) I'm drawing a blank lately on what to write. Any tips on how to keep coming up with stuff to write about? It seems to come easy to you!

  14. As a new blogger I have about a million questions. I writing a series of posts (Is There Anybody Out There and then Is There Anybody Out There Part 2) where I've asked questions like:

    1. What in the heck are SEO's?
    2. How do I linkup?
    3. How do I partner on a giveaway?
    4. How do I know if I'm posting affiliate links?
    5. Why has monetizing my blog become such a motivating factor?
    6. Does sponsoring another blogger really help your blog?

    Help a girl out Erin!

  17. How does one even BEGIN to offer advertising on your blog? I've been blogging for more than five years now and I have the readership now that I feel like I'm wasting an opportunity to earn a little income, but I have no clue how to even start. HELP!!!!

  18. YES!!

OK. I have read through a few and I love them all. Here is my question though: How do you balance out the time that it takes for blogging, social media, working/promoting your sponsors? My husband supports my blogging (doesn't understand it!) BUT feels that it takes away way to much of my free time and thus taking away from our time together. I am a teacher and am at school 9-5. What would you recommend for those who love blogging, but their first and foremost duty is to be a wife and a good one. Our jobs, helping to clean/cook, and gosh dare I even mention those who are working mom bloggers! YIKES.

  19. Do you blog directly from blogger or use another app or program to write up your blog posts? And also...how do you ensure that you're keeping yourself safe in the blogging world (i.e. do you ever worry about posting pictures of your house or your family on the internet? I struggle with this) :) Thanks Erin!!!

  20. Of all the different options to get your blog's name out there, sponsoring, giveaways, link-ups, etc. what did you find to be the most successful for increasing your number of readers?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hi! I would love if you could talk about some CSS tricks that you've found helpful! Also, how to stay motivated when you don't feel like writing, and have you ever had a follower/commenter who felt a little stalkery and how did you deal with it? I know that's an insane question... I'm asking for a friend.

    Can't wait for this!

  22. Is GFC dead and a thing of the past? I have noticed bloggers are removing GFC from their sites and using other ways to gather followers (email subscription, instagram, bloglovin, etc.), rather than GFC? Thoughts? Looking forward to your vlog!

    1. Oh, I had one other question. When did you set up your blog as "a company" - such as apply for an EIN number to do affiliate links, etc.? And, how did you classify the company - as a sole proprietorship or LLC? Any good resources? Suggestions?

  24. How about a general rundown of all your 'blogging tools'? Ie/ platform (blogger or wordpress); photo editing/storage; ad company; email, etc. etc. :)

  25. I have sooo many questions, but for the life of me, cannot form my questions into words! So I guess I will be relying on others to ask the questions I have hidden in my mind! My biggest question, that I am sure you have been asked 599 times is.... how to go from a VERY small number of followers to a large following in a short amount of time. Sponsors, participating in giveaways, etc... but in addition to doing those things, how do you recommend growing a blog successfully?

  26. I love this idea and can't wait to soak up all your knowledge! I have sponsored quite a few blogs and some deliver exactly what you pay for and others don't mostly dropping the ball on social media shout outs etc. How would you go about discussing this with the person you sponsored without ruffling feathers.

  27. Oh I have so many questions, but I guess if I reach really deep....every now and then a company will approach me asking if I will promote their product. Most times there's no mention of any type of compensation. How do you handle that?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ok, I have two.

Clearly we all know of your profound fabulousity and hipness. But how do these clothing designers locate you, and based on said fabulosity and hipness, decide that they shall send forth the clothes! Send forth ALL the clothes, for Erin to wear and share on her blog?

Secondly, your blog is amazing and your readership loyal (you featured me today and my blog is crying tears of joy from all of the love and visitors). What are the ways in which you personally grew your blog to be so big over such a comparatively short length of time? I'm talking' like, personal Erin journeyness up in here.

    Please and thank you!

  29. Should you charge to promote a company's products, even if they send you a free product to review?

I read and appreciate every one of your comments. Thanks for stopping by my space and sharing a piece of yourself on this huge ole internet. I meant that in the least creepy way possible. I'm just good at making everything awkward. Anyhow, thank you for your comments. They make me smile :)
